Personal Introduction

Welcome again! This is the part where you read about who I am. My name is Emma and I was born in a small town. Everyone knows everyone and most of my friends live less than fifteen minutes away from me. Some of my favorite hobbies include listening to music, playing with makeup, hanging out with friends and family, and baking. Additionally, I have a love for writing. Ever since I was a young child, I was drawn towards reading and writing. Reading took me to a different world, and it amazed me that words on a piece of paper had the ability to do that. Through reading, I developed my love for writing. Music also serves as a way to ‘get out’. My favorite part is really listening to the lyrics and understanding them on different levels.

In school, my best subjects are Math and English. Nonetheless, I love History and Science. I love learning and everything about it. That is why I am making it absolutely necessary for me to be able to learn new things every day in my future career. I am both a visual and hands on learner. School serves as an outlet for me to express my creativity, thoughts, and concerns. I will forever be thankful that I have had the opportunity (and still have opportunities) to further my education. In an academic setting, I love being able to help my fellow students when they do not understand the assignment. Honestly, it makes me feel like a mini teacher. As mentioned before, my big goal is to help people. In school, I help people, and people also help me. That is why being at school is so enjoyable for me.

My personal identity involves being a light for everyone and remaining positive. My mission statement literally is “being a light for people on their dark days”. I definitely know what it can be like to be surrounded by clouds and rain on a dark day. In August of 2020, my father passed away unexpectedly. This shifted my life tremendously and turned it completely upside down. I never imagined something like that would happen to me. You see it on TV and it makes you sad for a few seconds, and then you brush it off. But once it happens in real life to you, it changes everything. My dad and I did not leave off on the best note, and I will forever regret that. From this, I learned that I need to be consistently nice to people because you never know when it could be their last day. Even if tomorrow is not their last day, they could be trying really hard not to fall apart. They could be at their last breaking point, and something as simple as a mean look could tear them apart. I want to be the stranger that smiles to someone on the street. I want to be the one person that remains kind no matter what. I understand the value of this to a T, and I think that it is also my mission to make sure other people understand this as well.

My educational identity is one that I am quite proud of. From a young age, I always put my all into what I did. My teachers would often tell my parents that if every student was like me, the world would be perfect. That is quite the compliment! I always try to go above and beyond on work that I complete for my classes. At times, I can become very passionate about what I am doing, and that is when I am at my best. This happens most often when I am learning about something that piques my interest, or when the teacher makes it fun and interactive. When it comes to working with groups in classes, I always try to be the first one who speaks up. We all know what it is like to be in a group with people you do not know and everyone sits their waiting to break the silence. It can be awkward. Therefore, I always try to break the silence and act like I am already friends with them. It makes collaborating so much easier and breaks the tension. And once it starts flowing, it does not stop. Personally, I thoroughly enjoy being in an educational setting. If becoming a PA doesn’t work out for me, I will definitely become a teacher.

We are at the end of my short little story. As I mentioned earlier on my welcome page, this is a little introduction to what my canvas looks like. Although it is words and not literally a painting, I hope that you can understand the message I want to put out. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read about me! I hope you enjoy going through my e-portfolio to learn about my academic career at SPCC.

HEAL

You are not "too sensitive". You have not fallen too far behind just because there are days where you doubt your progress. You are not weak for having moments where you feel the heaviness of disappointment or betrayal all over again.

Because through it all, you have continued to breathe. You have continued to exhale and pursue endless boundless peace, showing up in the wild of your chaos, far beyond your understanding.

Breath into breath, continue to be kind to yourself, as you slowly come more into yourself. You heart has been broken, but it has also been opened, to feel, and to also heal.

Morgan Harper Nichols

I chose to include this quote because I believe that it is very inspirational and can have a strong impact on any reader. I relate to this quote because I lost a loved one out of the blue, and I am still healing to this day. I had to learn how to be kind to myself after this happened, and it also taught me that I needed to be kind to everyone around me at all times. I love finding quotes that are personal to me. It helps me put my thoughts into words and heal through art.
